Murphy Law Firm announces that a settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against Carter Credit Union (“McLean” or “Defendant”) for a data security incident (the “Data Security Incident”) that occurred in October 2024, when one or more unauthorized individuals infiltrated McLean’s computer network and potentially gained access to the personal information of approximately 30,000 individuals.
Under the settlement, all affected individuals may submit a claim to receive any or all of the following benefits: (a) up to $4,000.00 per Settlement Class Member, for reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses incurred as a result of the Data Security Incident; (b) as an alternative to reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses, Settlement Class Members may claim a flat payment of $45.00; and (c) three years of identity theft protection and credit monitoring services. In addition, all Settlement Class Members will benefit from meaningful data security enhancements that will help ensure that their personal information will be adequately protected by McLean going forward.
