On April 9, 2025, Select Medical Holdings Corporation was advised by its debt collection service provider Nationwide Recovery Services, Inc. (“NRS”) that cybercriminals infiltrated its inadequately secured computer systems from July 5, 2024 through July 11, 2024, and that certain files were copied from its systems. Select Medical Holdings Corporation was further advised that, through this infiltration, cybercriminals accessed and potentially stole files containing the sensitive personal information of tens of thousands of Select Medical Holdings Corporation’s patients.
The information exposed in the data breach includes, but is not limited to:
- First names
- Last names
- Social Security numbers
- Medical information
As a result of the Select Medical Holdings Corporation data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
