Mercer University Data Breach

On April 5, 2023, Mercer University detected unusual activity on its internal network, indicating a data breach. Based on a forensic investigation, Mercer University confirmed that unauthorized cybercriminals gained access to its computer system between at least February 12, 2023 and February 24, 2023. Mercer University further confirmed that the unauthorized cybercriminals accessed files containing the stored personal information of at least 93,512 individuals.

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers

As a result of the data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
