Lafayette Federal Credit Union (“LFCU”) detected suspicious activity on its computer network, indicating a data breach. Based on a subsequent forensic investigation, LFCU determined that cybercriminals infiltrated its inadequately secured computer environment and thereby gained access to an email email account and certain data files on or about September 16, 2024. The investigation further determined that, through this infiltration, cybercriminals accessed and even acquired files containing the sensitive personal information of potentially 75,545 individuals.
