Harvard Pilgrim Data Breach

On or around April 17, 2023, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Plan (“Harvard Pilgrim”) became aware of unauthorized access to its systems, indicating a data breach and ransomware attack. Based on a third-party forensic investigation, Harvard Pilgrim confirmed that unauthorized cybercriminals infiltrated its inadequately secured network and gained access to its systems. Harvard Pilgrim determined that the personal data of at least 2,550,922 individuals was copied and taken from its Harvard Pilgrim systems between March 28, 2023, to April 17, 2023.

The personal information stolen in the data breach includes:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information

As a result of the data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
