Credit Control Corporation Data Breach

R&B Corporation of Virginia d/b/a Credit Control Corporation (“Credit Control Corporation” or “CCC”) is a business associate to a variety of healthcare organizations. On March 7, 2023, CCC became aware of a cybersecurity event perpetrated by a threat actor, indicating a data breach. Based on a forensic investigation, Credit Control Corporation confirmed that unauthorized cybercriminals gained access to its computer system between March 2, 2023, and March 7, 2023. CCC further confirmed that the cybercriminals accessed systems and even copied files contained the electronically stored personal information of at least 286,699 individuals.

The personal information accessed by cybercriminals in the data breach includes:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Social Security numbers
  • Account information
  • Healthcare information

As a result of the data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
