CalPERS Data Breach

On June 6, 2023, California Public Employees’ Retirement System (“CalPERS”) learned that unauthorized actors had gained access to its customers’ sensitive information. The unauthorized access occurred through the use of the MOVEit transfer tool used by CalPERS’ third-party service provider, PBI Research Services. According to a forensic investigation, it was determined that the cybercriminals accessed and even downloaded files containing the stored personal information of approximately 769,000 individuals.
