On February 7, 2023, Advance America discovered indications of a cybersecurity attack on its IT network. Through a subsequent investigation, Advance America determined that unauthorized cybercriminals successfully infiltrated its system and gained access to certain data records. Advance America further determined that the records accessed or acquired by unauthorized cybercriminals contained the confidential personal information of its applicants and customers.

While Advance America has not yet publicly disclosed the exact types of personal data exposed in the breach, similar data breaches have involved:

- Social Security numbers
- Addresses
- Dates of birth
- Financial information
As a result of the data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
