On or about December 14, 2022, Ventura County Credit Union (“VCCU”) detected unusual activity on its internal network, indicating a data breach. Based on a forensic investigation, VCCU confirmed that cybercriminals gained access to certain VCCU email accounts between October 20, 2022 to December 15, 2022. VCCU further determined that through this infiltration, cybercriminals potentially accessed or acquired the sensitive personal information of at least 81,900 individuals.

As a result of the data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
