On October 12, 2022, OrthoAlaska, LLC (“OrthoAlaska”) detected unusual activity on its computer systems, indicating a data breach. Based on a forensic investigation, OrthoAlaska confirmed that cybercriminals had infiltrated its network and accessed certain files.

OrthoAlaska further determined that the files accessed by cybercriminals contained the sensitive patient information of thousands of individuals including:
- Names
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Medical information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
