On October 10, 2023, one of the software providers for Comcast Xfinity (“Xfinity”), Citrix, revealed a vulnerability in a product used by Xfinity. Based on a forensic investigation into the vulnerability, Xfinity determined that cybercriminals infiltrated the inadequately secured database and thereby gained access to, and likey acquired, files containing the sensitive personal information of 35,879,455 individuals.

The information exposed in the data breach includes, but is not limited to:
- Names
- Contact information
- Social Security numbers (at least last four digits)
- Dates of birth
- Usernames
- Passwords
- Security questions and answers
As a result of the data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly confidential information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.
